Student Medication

We work in partnership with families to ensure that all medication is stored, managed, and administered safely. Below you will find key information about how we support students who require medication during the school day.

How does the school store and manage students’ medication?

Most medication is stored securely in our locked medical room.

Asthma inhalers are an exception; we encourage students to carry their own inhaler so it is always easily accessible.

We also have a dedicated medical fridge for medication that requires refrigeration.

Where is medication kept, and who has access to it?

All medication is kept in the medical room, which is locked at all times.

The key is held by a designated member of staff to ensure medication is accessed only by authorised personnel.

What is the school’s procedure for administering medication?

We follow the procedures set out in our Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions, which can be found on our school website.

This outlines how medication is checked, recorded, administered, and monitored.

How does the school ensure the correct dosage and timing?

We administer medication strictly according to the instructions on the prescription or packaging.

Staff check timing and dosage carefully and record each administration.

What forms do parents need to complete before medication can be given?

Parents/carers must complete an Administration of Medication Form before we can store or administer any medication.

This ensures we have full, up-to-date information about the medication and the student’s needs.

What happens if a student refuses or forgets to take their medication?

If a student refuses or forgets their medication, we will notify parents/carers during our daily home contact so that you are fully informed and can advise on the next steps if needed.
