Safeguarding

At The Omnia Foundation we work tirelessly to ensure our students are safeguarded from harm.

“Schools and colleges and their staff are an important part of the wider safeguarding system for children. This system is described in the statutory guidance Working Together to Safeguard Children.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play. In order to fulfil this responsibility effectively, all practitioners should make sure their approach is child centred. This means that they should consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child.”

The Foundation is committed to:

  • safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety, and the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, of children and young people;
  • promoting equality of opportunity and community cohesion where the diversity of different backgrounds and circumstances is appreciated and positively valued;
  • the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs;

and expects all staff, volunteers and other workers to share this commitment.

The Child Protection Policy is for all staff, home settings, members of the board, volunteers and the wider foundation community. It forms part of the safeguarding arrangements for the foundation.

All staff receive frequent Child Protection and Safeguarding update training and are aware of the procedures for passing on concerns within the foundation.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child or young person’s welfare.

Safeguarding Procedures

Our policies and procedures for dealing with safeguarding concerns follow those set out in statutory guidance in the Keeping Children Safe in Education document issued by the DfE. It provides us with a framework and a guideline on how to deal with concerns efficiently and effectively. Below is an outline of the procedures when a safeguarding concern is raised.

SOMEONE HAS A CONCERN ABOUT A CHILD

This is logged on an electronic system called CPOMS. If the concern is that the child is at immediate risk this is reported immediately to a DSL in person.

FACT FINDING/GATHERING INFORMATION

Typical tasks may involve collecting the child’s statement, checking school records for pupil history, checking for previous interventions.

WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDED ACTION

Safeguarding log is updated – filed and monitored
and
Phone call home/school-based meeting with DSL’s
or

DSL MAKES A CALL TO GAIN ADVICE

DSL’s seek advice from external agencies e.g. 101 or children and family’s hub.

If you have any questions or concerns relating to safeguarding or our procedures please contact the foundation.
